We are looking for
* Member Engagement Coordinator – 20 hours per week
Are you someone who brings warmth and empathy — and knows how to hold steady professional boundaries?
Do you thrive in roles that blend administration, people support, risk awareness, and meaningful connection?
If so, you may be the person we’re looking for.
Our organisation supports people living with chronic illness, and we’re seeking a Member Engagement Support Coordinator who can walk alongside our community with compassion, clarity, and resilience.
About the Role
This is a varied, people‑centred role that combines member onboarding, ongoing support, appointment coordination, and community connection. You’ll be the first point of contact for many members, managing the 0800 line, text service, and email triage. You’ll guide new members through the onboarding pathway, maintain accurate CRM records, and help ensure continuity of care across our services.
You’ll also play a key role in fostering social connection — gently checking in with members, reducing isolation, and helping them feel seen, valued, and supported.
At the same time, you’ll need to recognise when a situation requires escalation. This includes risk triage, maintaining boundaries, and following organisational protocols for high‑risk or crisis events.
This role is ideal for someone who can hold both the positive and challenging aspects of community support work without losing their centre.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Managing incoming communications (phone, text, email) and triaging member needs
- Guiding new members through the onboarding process
- Coordinating appointments, schedules, and follow‑ups
- Maintaining accurate CRM records (Cliniko, Infoodle)
- Providing low‑level advocacy within clear boundaries
- Supporting social connection through gentle check‑ins
- Identifying risk and escalating appropriately
- Encouraging member engagement in programmes and services
- Supporting facilitators, interns, counsellors, and volunteers
- Representing the organisation with professionalism and empathy
What We’re Looking For
Essential Qualities
- Genuine empathy paired with strong emotional boundaries
- Ability to stay calm and grounded during member distress
- Confidence in risk awareness and knowing when to escalate
- Excellent communication skills — warm, clear, and respectful
- High‑level organisation and accuracy
- Comfort working with people experiencing chronic illness, isolation, or vulnerability
- Resilience and self‑awareness — someone who can manage the emotional load
Preferred Experience
- Background in health or social services, community support, mental health, or related fields
- Experience with CRM systems (Cliniko, Infoodle)
- Familiarity with chronic illness communities (ME/CFS, Long COVID, fibromyalgia, dysautonomia)
- Experience in NGOs or member‑based organisations
Why This Role Matters
You will be part of a small, dedicated team making a real difference in the lives of people who often feel unseen or unsupported. You’ll help create connection, stability, and hope — while also protecting your own wellbeing through clear boundaries and strong organisational support.
Please do not apply if you live outside of New Zealand as we are unable to hire you.
