I’ve been reflecting on silver linings. The little shiny things that only exist because of my illness. They’re no substitute for good health but I’m grateful for them nevertheless.

Some of mine are:

  • I get to go to my daughter’s school events. If I was well I’d be working and likely miss them.
  • My illness led to the end of my marriage which was awful, but now I know my ex isn’t someone to weather all storms with, and I’m free to one day make a stronger connection.
  • A mobility parking permit – VIP parking!
  • Loss of independence meant moving in with mum and dad, together we parent my daughter and it’s led to a strong family bond and so much quality time together we otherwise wouldn’t have.

ME has given me a huge appreciation for small things. Fresh sheets, clean hair, moments of normalcy.

Disclaimer: While gratitude is a proven powerful tool for resilience and happiness, toxic positivity is also very real! If you’re not in the mood to discuss good things coming from the dumpster fire that is chronic illness, that’s totally fair!

Picture is of a setup I did for my daughters doll house, another thing I wouldn’t have time for if I was a working mum.
