Scoop report into Long-Covid in New Zealand – 29/4/2021 – click to access the full article
Emeritus Professor Warren Tate, biochemist, molecular biologist and ME/CFS expert, Brain Health Research Centre, University of Otago, comments: “In this pandemic, long COVID refers to the large group of people who have been infected with the coronavirus but have not recovered normal health after the expected recovery time.”
CCI Support completely agrees with Dr Anna Brooks (Cellular immunologist and Senior Research Fellow, Maurice Wilkins Centre, University of Auckland). We would also like to see the NZ Government see the following as top priorities in response to long COVID?
- Acknowledge long COVID
- Report non-recovered cases
- Support those who have it
- Support research to find answers
But we would go one step further and suggest that the research and support should also acknowledge the 20,000+ people within New Zealand with other post-viral and debilitating conditions like Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS).
