Over the past few weeks, I’ve had the privilege of being here for a short internship. When I first arrived, I was struggling with both my health and mental health, and I anticipated that this role might feel overwhelming. Instead, I found myself supported so well by my peers, and welcomed with generosity and kindness by our members. This has been remarkable in helping me rebuild my confidence and strengthen my sense of professional identity.
I’ve been fortunate to sit in on several of our support groups, and it’s been inspiring to witness the way people come together in these spaces. The openness, trust, and willingness to share personal experiences creates a sense of connection that feels both genuine and supportive. It’s clear that these groups are more than just meetings — they are communities where people find strength in one another.
The Rotorua coffee group has also been thriving, with new faces showing interest and joining in. The facilitator shared that genuine friendships are forming, which feels like a real testament to the power of bringing people together in a safe and welcoming space.
This internship has given me so much more than I anticipated — not just professional learning, but also a deeper appreciation for the resilience and warmth within these groups. I’m truly grateful to have been a small part of this journey.
